CWT Announces 10<sup>th</sup> Herd Retirement

After reviewing a number of economic benchmarks including cull rates and cull cow prices, Cooperatives Working Together (CWT) announced Thursday that it will conduct a herd retirement. Bids will be accepted starting Friday, May 28th with a cutoff date of
Friday, June 25th. CWT has determined that it will consider bids up to, but not to exceed, $3.75 per hundredweight. Farmers whose bids are accepted are paid by CWT for their milk production, and they also retain the beef value of the cows they send to processing.

E. coli Traced to Raw Milk From MN Dairy

On Wednesday, Minnesota state health officials announced that they have linked three cases
of E. coli O157:H7 illness associated with raw milk from a dairy farm located in Gibbon, MN.
The Minnesota Department of Health (MDH) urged consumers who may have purchased milk
from the Hartmann Dairy Farm, otherwise known as M.O.M’s, to discard the product and not

MT. VERNON, Mo. — Think how much aggravation 200 flies biting and flying around you would create. No wonder research shows that blood-sucking horn flies can reduce calf weaning weights by up to 20 pounds and reduce gains on stocker cattle by 25 pounds per head when flies are not controlled.

The threshold level for economical fly control begins around 200 flies per animal according to Eldon Cole, a livestock specialist with University of Missouri Extension.

World Dairy Expo Trade Show Expands

MADISON, WISCONSIN – Due to high demand for additional display space for equipment, World Dairy Expo has expanded its Outdoor Trade Mall for 2010. An additional 19,000 square feet of prime booth space, the equivalent of adding another Arena Building, has been added to the east side of the Exhibition Hall.

In addition to providing more exhibit space for equipment, the change will also allow for expansion of the Grazing Pavilion. A popular destination at last year’s show, it features a live cattle display and exhibits specific to grazing management.
