The Dairy Dragon™ offers sanitization to dairies that utilize sand bedding. It is a low-cost method to help reduce the persistent problem of mastitis infection without chemicals.
Researchers at Mississippi State found the use of the propane-powered flame sanitizer to reduce pathogens in the dairy beds. This technology concentrates extreme heat onto the sand bedding, which effectively kills pathogens by rupturing the cell walls, and removing moisture from the bedding to inhibit bacteria re-growth. By flaming bedding during the routine practice, dairy producers can reduce mastitis pathogens by up to 30 percent. A propane flame solution can only help farmers and serves as a viable tool for organic producers and also benefits health-conscious consumers.
