Animal safety and operator convenience define 2011 Featherlite stock trailers
CRESCO, IA — Featherlite Trailers’ 2011 livestock trailer product line, unveiled at its International Dealer Meeting, showcases the company’s belief in continuous product improvement.
“The new 2011 stock trailer models and options we’re offering emphasize safety and comfort for livestock and convenience for the owner,” Randy Lewis, Featherlite’s National Sales Manager, said. The new and enhanced stock trailers are now available through Featherlite’s dealers.
One option, Featherlite’s new airflow system, offers convenience as well as safety. This option uses ducting and an electric fan to give livestock a constant supply of fresh air.
“Ranchers and farmers know the risks livestock face in a poorly-ventilated trailer,” Lewis said. “This option drastically reduces those risks.”
Some options make livestock trailers more convenient by providing greater versatility. The removable wall option on the Model 8107 is one of them. This allows trailer owners to turn their 8107 into a combo horse trailer with the help of a saddle rack option. It also gives farmers and ranchers a portable workshed to store tools and other equipment.
Some 2011 improvements, like the “Lazer” stock trailer, benefit trailer owners as much as livestock. The aluminum side sheets of the “Lazer” are connected to the inside of the structural side posts, not welded onto the outside. The result is a smooth, flush interior that is easy to clean—a welcome time-saver for famers and ranchers. The “Lazer” also features new rounded air spaces.
“The distinct look of the ‘Lazer’ will really turn heads, especially at livestock shows and fairs,” Lewis said.
Featherlite has come up with options and features for all its stock trailers. Even the Model 8191 livestock box now has a polished wave panel option.
Some new options apply to multiple Featherlite stock trailer models. All livestock trailers with a center gate can now use an optional pin to secure the center gate slam latch. This ensures the gate will not shake loose during travel on rough country roads.
During travel, trailer owners will also appreciate the new rounded design of Featherlite’s LED clearance lights. These are smaller, brighter and easier to replace than before.
Featherlite bumper pull trailers also have new couplers. These have a higher 21,000 pound rating, as opposed to the previous couplers’ 15,000 pound rating. The new couplers can also be pushed onto the trailer ball without opening the spring-loaded latch. This helps to make sure the coupler is fully connected to the trailer ball. It also makes hooking up the trailer easier.
